Product Description
The MP2797 is a powerful battery management device that provides a complete analog front-end (AFE) monitoring and protection solution. This device is designed for multi-cell series battery management systems (BMS). It supports digital or SPI communication, supports 7 to 16 series battery connections, and has an absolute voltage exceeding 80V on specific pins. Two independent analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) are integrated.
The first ADC measures the differential battery voltage of each channel (up to 16 channels), chip temperature, and the temperature of 4 channels via an external NTC thermistor.
The second ADC measures the charge/discharge current via an external current sampling resistor. The dual ADC architecture enables synchronous measurement of voltage and current to monitor battery and battery pack impedance. When used with the MPF4279x coulomb counter, the state of charge (SOC) error can be controlled within 2%. The MP2797 also integrates a high-side MOSFET (HS-FET) driver for charge and discharge control. The discharge (DSG) MOSFET driver has a configurable soft-start (SS) function, providing controlled turn-on without an external pre-charge circuit. The MOSFET driver also integrates overcurrent protection (OCP), short-circuit protection (SCP), undervoltage protection (UVP), overvoltage protection (OVP), and high/low temperature protection.
All these protection functions have configurable thresholds. Internal passive balancing MOSFETs are used to balance mismatched batteries, supporting currents up to 58mA. The device can also optionally drive external balancing transistors (MOSFET or BJT) for balancing. It is packaged in a TQFP-48 (7mm x 7mm) package.
